Ensemble Contemporary α

Call for Scores

​​​

Ensemble Contemporary α, comprised of performer and composer members, is dedicated to introducing contemporary music both in Japan and abroad, as well as presenting new works by its composer members. For its 2025 annual concert, the ensemble is calling for mixed-media musical works designed for instrumental performance. One or two selected works will be featured in the concert.

　Venue: Suginami Koukaidou, Small Hall (Tokyo, Japan)

Submission Guidelines

1. Eligibility

There are no restrictions on age or nationality.

​

2. Submitted Works

　（１） Instrumentation::

  • Choose one or two performer(s) from the following list:

    • Violin (1 player)

    • Clarinet (1 player, including Eb clarinet and Bass clarinet)

    • Percussion (1 player)

  • Player Piano: Yamaha Disklavier

  • Audiovisual setup: Screen, Projector, and a 4-channel sound system (venue equipment will be used).

  • Additional devices, instruments, or live participation by the composer (e.g., operation or performance) may be included at the composer’s own arrangement. Please contact us if you have any questions regarding feasibility.

　（2）Performance Duration:

・Up to 10 minutes

　（3）Work Status:​

・New works, previously premiered, or unperformed works are all eligible.

３. How to Apply

　To complete your application, please follow these steps:

　（1）Fill out the application form linked below and upload the score (PDF) and specifications 　　　(PDF, if applicable).
　　　・Additional materials (e.g., mp3, mp4, mov files): Use a file transfer service (e.g., 　　　　WeTransfer) and include the download URL in the application form.

　（２）Application Fee：

  • JPY 3,000 per submission.

  • Payment method:

  • Important Notes:

    • Applications will not be accepted if payment is not confirmed by the deadline.

    • The application fee is non-refundable under any circumstances.

　（3）Score and Materials：

  • Include a program note of up to 200 words (in English) or 400 characters (in Japanese) on the first page of the score.

  • Attach additional materials that will help clarify and illustrate the work for evaluation.

  • Submitted scores and materials will not be returned.

　（４）Multiple Submissions:

  • Multiple submissions are allowed; however, a separate application form must be used for each work.

 

　（５）Deadline:  Sunday, January 19, 2025, at 23:59 (JST)

４.  Selection Process

（1）Selection Committee: Members of Ensemble Contemporary α

５.  Rehearsals and Performance

（1）Rehearsals will be coordinated between the composer and the ensemble.
（2）Composer(s) are encouraged to attend rehearsals and the concert.
　　 However, all travel and accommodation expenses will be the composer(s)’ responsibility.​

６. Copyright and Fees

（1）No rental or performance fees will be paid for the selected works.

（2）Copyright royalties will be paid through JASRAC or an equivalent copyright
       management organization.
